Fun
Welcome to the Fun Page!
At The Bodhi Tree, we work hard—but we also believe in playing hard, laughing often, and celebrating the little things (like when all the kittens actually nap at the same time). This is your space to connect with nature, get a little silly, and feel the joy that makes this wild little sanctuary so magical.
Check back often!
We’re always adding new ways to sprinkle joy into your day and grow this little digital grove of goodness.
Ever wanted to write a love letter to a tree? Now’s your chance. Pick one of our beloved mature trees, send them a message, and our team will send a response straight from the leaves themselves. (Yes, trees have surprisingly great penmanship.)
This month’s featured tree: Jaboticaba (Plinia cauliflora)
She’s small but mighty, with shiny leaves, sweet fruit that grows right on her trunk, and an old-soul energy that radiates calm. Basically, a forest fairy disguised as a tree.

We’re proud to spotlight incredible women-owned businesses that bring serious skill, soul, and style to the plant world. Whether you’re on the hunt for rare foliage or the perfect pole to support it, these shops have you (and your plants) covered.
Meet some of our favorites:
• Lauren’s Leaves – Beautiful plants, big heart. Lauren’s shop is all about healthy, happy Hoya and sharing the joy of growing.
• NSE Tropicals – A legendary rare plant source run by a rare gem of a woman. This one’s for the serious collectors.
• PLVNTLY.com – Not a plant shop—but your plant’s favorite accessory boutique. From handmade aroid poles to stunning planks, everything is thoughtfully crafted and built to last.
We’ll be adding more as we go! Know a rad, women-run plant biz we should feature? Let us know!
Between rescue dog zoomies, dramatic cat poses, wild coqui photobombs, sassy anoles, and the occasional snake with main-character energy- life here is never boring. We’re working on uploading our best silly shots and videos-but until then, here’s a teaser:
This week’s Ki moment:
Caught mid-pose, standing guard over the precious Anthurium Selby’s Silver like it’s the crown jewels.
Want to see a silly plant meme corner? A playlist of jungle vibes? A “Name That Bug” guessing game? We’re all ears (and muddy boots).
Email us at hi@thebodhitree.org and we might just turn your idea into a feature!
Meet the Pride & Pack
They were rescued – but now, they run the place. These are the interns who never left, the coworkers who eat your lunch, and the managers who sleep on the job. From the Head of Security to the Director of Customer Service, every member of the Pride & Pack has earned their title through sheer stubbornness, charm, and an ability to make you love them-even while they’re stealing your flip-flop.
Director of Selective Affection
Regal. Reclusive. Cheese connoisseur.
Liam was rescued as a tiny kitten—the sole survivor after his mom and siblings were hit by a car. Now 4, he’s grown into a massive, Maine Coon–looking king who crosses his paws like royalty and expects to be treated accordingly.
He’s a daddy’s boy through and through, only coming to mom when he’s feeling off—or when there’s Emmental cheese involved (nothing else will do).
Despite his size, he’s a total scaredy cat. His favorite hangout is the shadehouse, usually flanked by his bodyguards: Ro, Ki, and the only kitten he’ll tolerate—Itchki.
Local bar cat turned Director of Customer Service.
One Saturday evening, Sunil and I actually left the forest (a rare event) and wandered into a local watering hole where the cervezas were cold and the people were warm. While we were soaking up the music and vibes, a tiny orange kitten leapt into Sunil’s lap and never looked back.
That was Finn. He came home with us that night and now runs the place. Officially, he’s The Bodhi Tree’s Director of Customer Service. Unofficially, he’s the heart of the crew—and the source of constant Finnanigans.
He’s sweet, mischievous, and somehow looks exactly like a fluffy fox. His favorite snacks are Churu and whatever treat is in your hand. His favorite pastime? Exploring the trails with mom like a tiny orange shadow.
Chief Agent of Mayhem
Little bundle of mischief. Ro’s baby. The voice of TBT.
One morning, as I pulled up to my gate, I spotted a tiny, scrappy kitten with the loudest meow. She led me to two other kittens—a sister and an older calico. It had been 17 years since I last bottle-fed such tiny kittens, and Potli quickly became my little bundle of joy, mischief, stubbornness, and fierce protection.
Potli, whose name means “little bundle” in Hindi, certainly lives up to her name. Though she may not be the prettiest, she’s by far the fiercest. Potli is Ro’s baby, and she keeps everyone—including the big dogs—on their toes. Her one meow is enough to command the pack, and nothing gets past her when it comes to protecting her family.
Now, she’s not just the heart of the pack—she’s also my construction project manager! No matter what I start around the property, Potli is always by my side, hard hat on, making sure things go exactly the way she wants them to.

Motli
AKA: The Pretty One. Ki’s Tiny Terror. Thunderstorm Diva.
Don’t let the innocent face fool you—Motli is sweet, shy, and absolutely down to sell out her morals for a single treat. She once got stuck 25 feet up a tree, down a mountain, in a thunderstorm, and made her human haul a 20-foot ladder through lightning and sideways rain for a dramatic midnight rescue. No regrets.
She is fiercely bonded to Ki (aka her big sister/mother/chew toy), and her favorite hobbies include cuddling Ki lovingly… or biting Ki’s tail with the dead-eyed stare of a Disney villain.
She’s soft. She’s cute. She’s also probably planning something.
Kalima
Title: Director of Security & Rodent Eradication (TBT & Surrounding Territories)
Kalima may be a stunning calico, but don’t let the good looks distract you—she runs this land. At just 3 months old, she appointed herself guardian of baby Motli and Potli and has been protecting her younger siblings ever since. Feral? Maybe. Fierce? Absolutely.
She is the undisputed Queen of Pest Control. No mouse, rat, or suspicious shadow is safe—not just on The Bodhi Tree’s land, but apparently on the entire street, because she’s taken it upon herself to also handle the neighbors’ infestations like a freelance exterminator with claws.
That said, she will meow like she’s being wrongfully evicted if she doesn’t get her wet food on time. A ruthless hunter, but still a mama’s girl at heart.
Mia
Former beach babe, now head of snake security.
Mia was found as a 3-month-old pup near the Vieques airport. I meant to foster her… but failed spectacularly.
She used to frolic with wild horses on the beach. Now? She alerts us when giant snakes are lurking on the trails. Total professional.
Mia has Addison’s disease and needs a $300 shot every month, but she doesn’t let that slow her down—especially if there’s food involved. Favorite fruits: oranges and Jaboticaba.
She’s 9, wise, food-obsessed, and deeply unimpressed by your drama.
Ro
Gentle giant. Kitten dad. Roti enthusiast.
Ro and his sister Ki were just 3 months old when they were thrown off a bridge. Thankfully, they were rescued by the amazing folks at Miracles for Satos Rescue. We originally planned to adopt Ki, but when we heard Ro was her brother, Sunil said, “No way we’re splitting up a family.” So home they both came.
Ro has chronic kidney disease and once had a terrifying ICU stay when he was just 8 months old. He’s also autistic—and one of the most intuitive, loving souls you’ll ever meet. He’s constantly trying to rescue every creature he sees. When the kittens arrived, Ro stepped up as my second-in-command for kitten care.
He loves all the kittens, but his absolute favorite is the wild one—Potli. That’s his baby.
He’s huge, sensitive, and fiercely protective of his home and pack. His favorite food? Hands down, the homemade roti I make just for him. He’s a total momma’s boy—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Ki
Fierce protector. Fruit thief. Daddy’s girl.
Ki is Ro’s sister, also a Great Dane/German Shepherd mix, and also living with chronic kidney disease. She’s big, bold, and brainy—her bark alone can clear the trail, but behind that intimidating presence is a goofy clown who forgets her own size.
She runs the trails with me and has started learning forest chores—like hauling big branches to the compost and spotting snakes (without hurting them), thanks to Mia’s guidance. Every time she blasts into the shadehouse, it’s pure chaos—but endearing chaos.
She’ll eat any fruit she can reach, but nothing beats mom’s cooking. The way she drools says it all. Her favorite kitten is Motli (the pretty girls stick together), and she’s an unstoppable daddy’s girl who always gets what she wants.
Swamper
Tiny terror. Pond enthusiast. Mozzarella connoisseur.
Swamper showed up at The Bodhi Tree at 2 AM one night about two years ago… and just never left. He’s small, but don’t let that fool you—this dude has a full-blown Napoleon complex and rules the land with an iron bark.
He’s our Head of Security. Forget the big dogs—Swamper’s the one you should be worried about.
Favorite foods? Watermelon, roti, and mozzarella. Favorite activity? Launching himself into the pond, rolling in the mud, and proudly returning for a bath like it’s mom’s problem (because it is).
